Full Time Teaching Position, Edmonton, AB
We are looking for a full-time Teacher (Indigenous Studies) to join our team at Inner City Youth Development Association’s Inner City High School.
WHO WE ARE
Inner City Youth Development Association (ICYDA) is a non-profit organization dedicated to working with marginalized urban Indigenous and other youth. Our two programs, the Youth Engagement Program and Inner City High School serve Edmonton’s urban marginalized Indigenous and other youth who are in danger of not finishing high school, becoming involved in criminal activity, and or requiring continuous maintenance by society’s social system. The Youth Engagement Program reaches out and engages youth at the street level and providing essential support such as counselling, housing and other referrals, literacy programs, living skills, food, bus fare, supplies, referrals, and other emergency resources. The resources, tools and attitudes that we provide make the transition to Inner City High School (ICHS) possible. ICHS is an independent academic and arts-based senior high school accredited by Alberta Education.
THE POSITION
This is a full-time Teaching Staff position that reports directly to the Principal. Teachers are expected to operate in a strength-based capacity and to integrate principles of social justice (e.g., poverty, marginalization, Indigenous and LBTQ2 rights) whenever possible. ICYDA values of trust, respect, cooperation and non-violence, are based on a firm commitment to the principles of social justice. With a collaborative and democratic structure of governance, featuring a Principal, an Executive Director and Director of Education as central to the small management team, leadership and initiative is encouraged and sought from all staff.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This position is responsible for duties primarily related to student instruction, delivery of curriculum and working collaboratively with agency staff to foster a positive and supportive school culture.
QUALIFICATIONS
Required Qualifications
Bachelor of Secondary Education degree, with preference given to either:
A degree in Native Studies with a Bachelor of Education, or
A Bachelor of Education with a minor in Indigenous Curriculum and Pedagogy.
Solid social justice approach to the subject area combined with a flexible yet solid background
Passionate about subject material expected to instruct.
Must have ability to balance rigour with flexibility.
Must have ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
Must see education as a strength-based wholistic enterprise.
Knowledge of Indigenous issues and culture an asset.

Salary: base salary of $59,357 on grid with increases for level of education and experience.
