This partnership is another way that marginalized Indigenous and other urban youth in Edmonton can engage in and get excited about their learning in the areas of science, particularly from an Indigenous perspective. The Indigenous Ways of Knowing program features Elder Albert Marshal's concept of "Two Eyed Seeing" — how Indigenous culture and science can enhance Western culture and science. The
2021 Charity Options: Giving Tuesday & Holiday Gifts
The pandemic has been long and relentless. Yet, we’ve moved through it for two years, adjusting courses and programming, pushing forward with a spirit of community and a sense of resiliency and positivity. For those we serve, moving from the street to the classroom is a difficult process during the best of times… and these have not been the best of times.
Like the pandemic, this year was also upended by another major traumatic event: the location of thousands of Indigenous children recovered from unmarked graves at former residential schools. For many non-Indigenous Peoples, the truth of this lived reality was new and deeply uncomfortable. For Indigenous youth, however, this truth is old and familiar.
Truth and Reconciliation is much larger than government. It is a collective responsibility made up of individual actions by individuals. It starts with acceptance, understanding, and support.
Against that backdrop, our supporters have remained a bright spot over the past year. We want to acknowledge those who have continued to provide contributions and encouragement, allowing us to serve marginalized Indigenous and other youth looking to improve themselves and change their trajectory. From individuals, offices, restaurants, breweries, banks, law firms, shops and more — your contributions have continued to help Edmonton’s youth help themselves.
Three ways you can help us this holiday season:
Your single or monthly reoccurring contribution will help fund our wrap-around programming. From our hot lunch and snack program, to our in-house youth support services, to cultural supports, your gift will help Edmonton youth overcome barriers and keep moving forward.
Contribution can also be mailed, too! Care of: Inner City Youth Development Association, PO Box 11506 STN MAIN, Edmonton, AB T5J 3K7
Before we break for the holidays, we provide each youth with a gift bag to show them they matter. The gifts have a practical component too. They provide resources to help the youth make it until we reopen in January. Each gift bag provides youth with toques, mitts, coffee cards, grocery gift certificates, bus tickets and movie passes.

Sept 7 Open House Cancelled
Due to new provincial guidance on Covid, we're cancelling our Open House on Tuesday, September 7, 2021, between 3 and 5 pm. We are doing this to make adjustments to our event plan, to better ensure the safety of our school community and visitors.
*** School is NOT closed. Classes are running next week and high school registrations are also still taking place.***
We have two additional Open Houses coming up later this month. We hope that these can take place on Sept. 15 and Sept. 24 as planned but we will evaluate based on the health situation.
If you have any questions or concerns, please message us or contact the school on Tuesday. Thank you!
COVID-19 Fall 2021 Updates
COVID-19 Fall 2021 Updates
August 31/2021
With the safety of students and staff at the forefront, we have followed provincial direction and school feedback to shape how the new school year looks with regards to COVID-19 at Inner City High School. Although the situation with COVID-19 is fluid, we expect the following basic safety procedures and preventions to be adhered to. These include:
asking all visitors to the school a health questionnaire,
encouraging hand washing.
providing hand sanitizer.
maintaining enhanced cleaning and disinfecting routines throughout the school.
asking all students and staff to monitor their health and isolate if symptoms present.
mask wearing is currently optional but may be required based on circumstances and situational developments around public health measures.
encouraging physical distancing, where possible.
maintaining enhanced cleaning and disinfecting routines throughout the school.
encouraging COVID-19 vaccination.
To support these efforts, a digital sign is now located next to the elevator on the school’s main floor. All visitors will be presented with up-to-date information on our COVID-19 status upon their arrival.
We based these measures on what is known about COVID-19 right now, including information about the highly-transmissible variants of concern. At any point during the school year, the province could change the required health measures for schools across Alberta, schools in a particular region, or individual schools and classrooms. We will revisit these measures throughout the year as required.
Thanks to all in our school community for actively working to curb the spread of coronavirus. Your diligence keeps us all healthy.
October 7/2021
Following a request by the Alberta government to all independent school boards, our Board has approved a new policy that all staff and all adult visitors to our school must be vaccinated or show a negative test result taken within 72 hours to gain access to the facility.
Staff have until Oct 12/2021 to provide vaccination documentation. All adult visitors will be asked to provide vaccination or testing status upon school entry.
